I have been riding my bike for 2 weeks. I thought winter was done, and then it snowed about 5 cm this past week. To make up for the fact that Jenny and I never did one back-country trip this winter, we went with two other teachers (Stephanie and Anthony) to Log Cabin -- a popular area about 1.5 hours south of Whitehorse on the road to Skagway, Alaska. The scenery and mountains along the highway are pretty spectacular alone, but we lucked out and had a gorgeous spring day with the mountain all to ourselves. I think that most people had given up on skiing because the snow had been crusty the past few weekends, but yesterday was absolutely perfect. We were able to get in 3 runs over the course of the day and have our pick of fresh tracks. It was well worth going and I feel better now about leaving winter on a good note.
We put in a track going about 2/3 of the way up the mountain, just to the left of the cliff band in the middle of the mountain near the top.
There was fresh, untracked snow everywhere.
It was a bit of work establishing the track.
But well worth it coming down...
More please!
